Over 110 people came out for Rotary’s first community Pancake Breakfast of 2025! The first of our Pancake Breakfasts each year is held at Rotary Hall since weather can be … unpredictable, even by the Victoria Day holiday weekend! We thank everyone who came out for a delicious Pancake Breakfast! We also thank the many ‘Friends of Rotary’ who helped out at this event with preparing food on our new grills and helping out on the serving line to serve breakfasts to hungry customers! And we thank our individual and corporate sponsors who generously donate product and money to defray Rotary’s costs of putting on these events, allowing us to return more of the proceeds back to the community of Northern Bruce Peninsula! More photos from this latest community Pancake Breakfast event can be found our Club website at https://www.rotarynbp.org/photoalbums/pancake-breakfast-may-18-2025.
Our next community Pancake Breakfast will be held at Rotary Pavilion by Lion’s Head Beach on June 29th, just ahead of the Canada Day holiday. Hope to see you there!
Rotary Tends Bars for Community Events
Beyond hosting community Pancake Breakfasts, your local Rotary Club raises funds by tending bars for community events at Rotary Hall, Lion’s Head Arena and other Municipal building locations in Northern Bruce Peninsula. Most local Rotarians are SmartServe-certified, an ‘official responsible liquor training program’ approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (ACGO), with many of our Club members recently re-certified for another five-year period. Over the past couple of weeks, Rotarians have been busy tending bars for a number of local community events including the SWANS Annual Fashion Show (held at Lion’s Head Arena on May 8th), a ‘Celebration of Life’ event for Jim Oliver (at Lion’s Head Arena on May 10th), another ‘Celebration of Life’ event for Marie Wilson (at Rotary Hall on May 16th), and the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary Fish Fry (at Lion’s Head Arena on May 17th). Rotarians Denise Blay, Sue Kolundzic, Cathryn Buckley, Catherine Henderson, Doug Embleton, Dan Bryans, John White and Rob Hiscott tended bars and/or helped with set-up/stocking.

Rotary Participates in Bruce Road 9 Clean-up
Your local Rotary Club participates annually in the Ontario ‘Adopt-a-Highway’ program, helping with road clean-up to keep Northern Bruce clean! This involves helping out with trash pick-up along the shoulders of a four-kilometre stretch of Bruce County Road 9 between Lion’s Head and Barrow Bay (along the side Cemetery Road between Bruce Road 9 and Highway 6) which we performed this year on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Rotarians Captain Jerry Greig (coordinator), Mary Fowler, Denise Blay, Tom Buckley, Tanner Blasko, Stacey Bridge, John White, Wendel (and his brother Frank) Thomson and Rob Hiscott all helped out with trash pick-up along the shoulders of these sections of Ontario roadways.
Trivial Pursuit Night at Rotary Hall
The next Trivial Pursuit Night at Rotary Hall will be held this Friday, May 30th. The event will be hosted by Caeli Mazara and Eric Perez, with Rotarians tending bar through the evening. Doors will open at 7:00 PM (with a start-time of 7:30), and there is a $5.00 admission charge. Everyone is welcome and those participating in the event can organize their own teams or join an existing team, with typically four to six people per trivia team. Come out to test your trivia knowledge and have some fun!
50/50 Draw Fundraiser Tickets Available!
Our 50/50 Rotary Fundraiser is now underway with a chance to win a cash prize of up to $2025! Draw tickets can be purchased for $5.00 each from any local Rotarian or from several vendors in Lion’s Head including Scott’s Home Hardware, Leo’s Closet, The Shops at 84 Main, Rachel’s Restaurant, and Garden in Thyme Country Market. We encourage people to get their 50/50 draw tickets early as we have sold out of tickets in past fundraisers!
The winning 50/50 ticket will be drawn at 11:00 AM on Sunday, June 29th at our summer Rotary Pancake Breakfast to be held at the Rotary Pavilion next to Lion’s Head Beach.
Net proceeds from this 50/50 Fundraiser Draw will go towards our Rotary Scholarships programme, in support of students graduating from Bruce Peninsula District School and going on to post-secondary studies. Rotary awards up to five scholarships each year valued at $1,500 each to support students pursue their post-secondary education plans at university, community college, or through a technical trades or apprenticeship program. Since 1972, your local Rotary Club has been awarding scholarships to local high school graduates of BPDS!
Get your Rotary 50/50 Draw tickets early, support our Scholarships programme, and join us for the actual Draw to be made at our second community Pancake Breakfast of 2025!
