Although July has come and gone, there is still plenty of summer left and many programs to enjoy at St. Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum. This August, we are offering visitors even more opportunities to engage with local history and discover what makes our community so special.
The Top of the Bruce Woodcarvers Club have already visited the museum twice this summer, giving visitors the opportunity to admire the members’ remarkable skill and craftsmanship. There are only two demonstration dates remaining, so be sure to visit us on August 12 and 22 to see these talented local woodcarvers at work and learn more about this traditional craft.
Those who cannot attend a live demonstration can still enjoy five detailed dioramas on display at the museum, created by Stan McClellan and members of the Woodcarvers Club. Depicting historic scenes of everyday life, the dioramas offer a glimpse into how people in our community once lived, worked and helped shape the town we know today.
Visitors interested in trying their hand at carving can join us on August 30 for a soap-carving activity. This hands-on program offers a fun and safe way for visitors of all ages to learn about the historic craft of carving.
Our summer drop-in programs continue every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. until the end of August. Join us to make your own miniature lighthouse on August 15 or learn how bread was traditionally made during our bread dough activity on August 26. Each program gives visitors a new way to explore history through fun and engaging hands-on activities.
Even outside of our scheduled programs and events, there is always something to discover at St. Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum. Until the end of August, the museum is open 7 days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Rain or shine, visitors can explore the stories of this remarkable community and the people who helped build it.
