Giant Success For LHHA Giant Garage Sale

Early July saw the return of the Hospital Auxiliary’s (LHHA) Garage Sale after three years of Covid shut down. After a week of set up the arena doors were thrown open to welcome bargain hunters to the chant, “You’re here, you’re here, You are really here”!
Attendees were shopping and dancing to music performed by Brian Taylor and Arnie Crittenden. The Auxiliary joined forces with the Lion’s Head Lions Club who provided a refreshment tent with muffins, cookies, sausages and bacon on a bun!
A festive atmosphere was certainly visible with red and white balloons (donated by the Balloon Headquarters in Wiarton) while hundreds of people from far and wide came to help raise money for health care in our community.
Such a large undertaking could not have been possible without the support and assistance of our Municipality (free dumping), and the muscle of the “arena boys” Mike, Milt and Bob!
Several people asked what we do with the leftovers after the sale. Books go to our book store at the Anglican Church and Books for Missions. Dishes, glassware, etc are boxed and taken to the Salvation Army, and clothing bagged for our Clothing Drive in October. Good furniture is taken to the “reuse it” storage at the Municipal Dump for those who need items to help themselves.
In fact, we had received so many items during our drop off time on Friday that we had to close about an hour and a half early because we had an over abundance of donations thanks to the generosity of our community. We apologize for any hardship or inconvenience that might have occurred due to the shut down but we were concerned about fire regulations and over crowding.
All in all it was a tremendous event that raised about $28,000 to support health care in our community! Thank you to everyone who donated items and those that returned to purchase.
