Summer brings lots of traffic on the Bruce, with friends, family, and cottagers coming up to enjoy the beautiful nature we get to experience all year round. It keeps everyone busy, but a few of our guys have been hard at work renovating the bar at the Lion’s Head Legion. After removing the old cabinets, we made some behind-the-wall repairs. We were fortunate to reuse some nice cabinets that Tim from town donated to us, and they’re now installed and looking great.
The second annual Wiarton Homecoming Weekend festival was held August third and fourth at the Bluewater Park on the Civic holiday long weekend. This year Bruce Men’s Shed organized and ran the pig roast. Thanks to Joe Vanderzand for lending us his roaster which does a fantastic job of cooking. We teamed with Wiarton Rotary’s Jackie Drawbell, whose team was partially made up of Men’s Shed guys dedicated to cooking the fries and keeping ahead of our plating speed. Overall the two teams did an amazing job of keeping up with the lineup waiting for the five o’clock serving start time. So many people came together to pull this off and we are grateful to all who were able to participate.

At the same time as the pig roast we had an information booth setup next door to us to promote Men’s Sheds in general and we spoke to people from many outlying towns who expressed interest in having such a group in their area. If you’re interested to learn more we can help with that!
Please note that our monthly Saturday meetings are canceled until the fall. Every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9am-11am at Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Feel free to drop in for coffee. Doors open at 8:45. If you would like further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please contact us at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793–3005.
