On Friday September 26 Bruce Men’s Shed hosted a successful pork roast dinner at the Lion’s Head Legion. Nobody went away hungry. The dessert table had little left at the end. A few of our guys (but primarily Dave) brought in some great door prizes. We really wish to thank each and every business who contributed a gift, to all our members who helped make this go smoothly and to those who baked desserts for us.
The list is long, but we thank Hellyer’s Foodland, Wilson Home Building Centre, Scott’s Home Hardware, The Blooming Lion Garden Centre in Lion’s Head, Garden in Thyme, Hungry Hiker Ferndale, Bear Tracks Inn and Restaurant, Dockside Willie’s in Wiarton, Sauble River Marina, Josie’s Fashions, Margot’s Optical, Rotary Club of Wiarton, and Miller’s Home Hardware Sauble Beach for the door prizes. I hopefully haven’t missed anyone!
We are also excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of Lunch and Learn events. The first is on Friday October 17 at 11:00 at Lion’s Head Legion. Jackie Ralph will be the guest speaker. She is the Youth and Adult Awareness & Education Supervisor at CMHA in Owen Sound. Her topic will be “Aging Well, Keeping Fit Mentally”.
The second will be Thursday November 13 with guest speaker Sandra Hong of Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce. She is the Public Education Coordinator and the topic is “Aging Well, Dementia Friendly Communities: Strategies and tips for Improving Memory”.
The last will be Friday December 11 with Angela Yenssen, Staff Lawyer of Grey-Bruce Community Legal Clinic. The topic is “Strategies for Aging Well, Know your Rights”
The funding for the Lunch and Learns comes from the Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) grant that is organized by the Municipality of North Bruce Peninsula.
Our next monthly Saturday meeting is October 18th, 9 until 11am, and every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9am-11am at Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45. Meeting for coffee every Wednesday at 10am in Wiarton at 451 Frank Street, Matthew Mutch hosting.
