On Sunday August 3rd the Ferndale Lion’s Head and District Lions hosted our annual Horseshoe Tournament on the Lion’s Head beach. Lions and friends gathered at 8:00 A.M. to set up the large event tent and prepare the beach for the horseshoe event. The pits were marked out on the beach and pins and snow fence in place in preparation of the horseshoe tosses.
Registration began at 11:00 A.M. and participants could either supply their own shoes or rent shoes from the Lions for a returnable deposit. The tournament began at noon with 45 teams signed up.
During the tournament Lions served hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments, and onions for Lion Delbert Richardson to fry, all donated by Heat and Eat from Shallow Lake. Soft drinks were available and, of course, for those wishing a stronger beverage, the bar was open.
Lions thank Travis Kraag for donating the winning team T-shirts and Heat and Eat for their generous donations for this Lions Fundraising event.
At the completion of the tournament trophies were presented to the winning teams:
-Men’s A top team: Travis Kraag and Dustin Kraag
-Men’s B top team: Doug Newton and Clayton Brooks
-Men’s C top team: Mike Krogh and Rick Kyle
-Ladies’ top team: Shannon Daries and Taylor Smith
-Mixed Men and Ladies’ top team: Gary Erb and Sarah Starky
Ferndale Lion’s Head and District Lions thank all participants, Lions and friends that helped make this event a success. Funds raised help sponsor community events and community clubs like the Figure Skating, Guide Dogs, Hospital Foundation and the Biosphere Group, among other groups.
