There were 45 entries for the 2024 Lion’s Head Beach Sandcastle Competition; an increase of four more entries from 2023. This annual family fun-filled event was held at the Lion’s Head Beach on 4 August 2024.

There were 18 entries in the sand sculptures category; 19 entries for sandcastles and 8 entries in the under 10 category. The sand creations all had to be totally natural (could include stones, leaves, twigs, etc), no man-made materials were allowed.

Co-organizer Marydale Ashcroft estimates that about 70 percent of the participants were local families, many returning home for Homecoming weekend and seasonals; with 30 percent being first time participants.

1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners were chosen from each category by a panel of three judges. The judges also chose a sand creation for honorable mention. The judges reported that it was a difficult decision to select the winners and they recognized the hard work that went into each creation.
