Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation Announces New Annual Radio-A-Thon With Bayshore Broadcasting

June 3, 2025 – The Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation (BPHF) is delighted to unveil a new annual hybrid radio-a-thon event in collaboration with Bayshore Broadcasting. Introducing the Rock the Bruce Checkerboard Challenge – GivenER for Healthcare! Tune in to The Bruce 97.9 – 91.9 in the North on June 20th. We will be broadcasting live from downtown Lion’s Head from 10am – 6pm. It will focus entirely on local content, featuring interviews with our healthcare professionals, mayors, donors, grateful patients and more. Plus, a variety of local music will be showcased throughout the day.
This marks the launch of a new tradition that celebrates our distinctive community uniting for a shared purpose over the airwaves. “As a young Bruce Peninsula buck I dreamed about building a radio station in my own backyard. I am super stoked to be broadcasting from my hometown, Lion’s Head, during the Checkerboard Challenge in support of local Healthcare. Dreams do come true sometimes.” said Mike Brough, Checkerboard Challenge co-host and local broadcaster.
Additionally, all four local grocery stores, Fretz’s Value Mart in Sauble Beach, Wiarton Foodland, Hellyer’s Foodland in Lion’s Head, and Peacock’s Foodland in Tobermory quickly jumped on board by providing space for volunteer teams to greet customers, collect donations, host ‘big cheque’ photo opportunities, and offer giveaways for hourly draws.

It’s all about celebrating our awesome community spirit and supporting local healthcare!” said Kevin Walsh, BPHF Chair.
