KEEP THE BRUCE CLEAN & GREEN (KTBC&G) thanks the 30 people involved, especially the dedicated cottagers/locals, who came out to pick up trash on Saturday, July 8th.
KTBC&G would like to thank the Lake Huron Coastal Centre and Georgian Bay Forever for being the stimulus and providing advertisements for the Tobermory Harbour Walk Cleanup.
There were 3 groups: garden, cigarette butts, and trash. Volunteers collected 13.5 lbs of litter which included 2 bags of garbage, 1 bag of recycling, 3 bags of garden brush (not included in the weighed trash) plus, a huge number of cigarette butts, in just 2 hours! Approximately 2,000 butts were picked up between the diver’s access area, across from the Grandview Motel, and on the short walk from the Cairn to the Visitor’s Centre! This leads us to request that the Municipality should seriously, consider strategically placing cigarette butt receptacles, in key areas.
The Peninsula Bruce Trail Club and KTBC&G supplied workers with nourishment and accessories. We had displays which were accompanied with the Lake Huron Coastal Centre’s display. There was also a Seabin display which is part of Georgian Bay Forever.
The Cleanup sparked interest among many visitors. We know some visitors took notice and must have seen the commitment and effort that is required! Maybe there was even some reflection on the importance of being RESPECTFUL, of the communities they visit. As we continually encourage people to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, RESPECT.
Lake Huron Coastal Centre will be holding summer cleanups throughout the summer, in other towns. If you would like to come out to help please visit https://www.lakehuron.ca/cleanupthecoast for more information.
