‘Somewhere to go, Something to do, Someone to talk to’
Media Release, Bruce Men’s Shed
I received a phone call from Liz who lives nearby, who had heard that the Bruce Men’s Shed might be able to help her. Recently home from the hospital but wheelchair bound during recovery, she has been unable to get outside to enjoy the fresh air due to the door thresholds. After talking to local contractors who said this job was too small for them, she called to see if we could help. After I dropped in to measure up the situation I returned a few days later and using only scraps of wood I had laying around, was able to install the small ramps needed to get outside, for which she was extremely grateful. If you or someone you know could use similar help please reach out to us!
The Wiarton Homecoming Festival on the recent Civic Holiday weekend was a roaring success, congratulations to the organizers for bringing this event to the community. The cornhole boards our group made over the winter were kept busy and feedback from the players about the boards was excellent.

We are glad to have participated at the Festival by having a booth to promote Bruce Men’s Shed and to talk about how these Sheds are able to promote men’s mental health through engagement with other men. We had an excellent story board with pictures of a few of our activities that really shows how we achieve this through projects, hikes, coffee gatherings and more. We spoke to many people, handed out a good number of contact cards and had fun explaining that the Sheds are Health by Stealth.
There are over 3,500 locations globally as per a recent Harvard study on isolation that included a look at the Shed movement since it started in 1993 in Australia.
Every Monday morning we meet for coffee from 9-11am, and our monthly meetings are the third Saturday morning of the month. You don’t need to be a member to drop in for coffee. Both are held at Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:30am, all are welcome.
If you would like further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please don’t hesitate to contact the Bruce Men’s Shed at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793–3005. At this time we do not have any membership fees.
