May 2, 2024 – On Friday, May 3, the Chi-Cheemaun ferry is setting sail on its 50th anniversary season! For half a century, the Chi-Cheemaun ferry has connected the Lake Huron communities of Tobermory and Manitoulin Island – providing an exciting travel experience and supporting local economies.

To kickstart the anniversary, the Annual Spring Repositioning Cruise took place on Thursday, May 2, 2024. Departing from the Owen Sound harbour, this annual tradition signifies the start of the sailing season for the Chi-Cheemaun. Per tradition, two local non-profit organizations joined the sail this year – the Saugeen Hospice & the Big Brothers and Sisters of Grey Bruce.

New this year, the Chi-Cheemaun will introduce a Sail Through Time exhibit on board – showcasing the ferry’s historical artifacts, posters, photos and much more of the ferry and its predecessors!

For passengers travelling in June, you won’t want to miss the annual Chi-Cheemaun Festival – featuring guest speakers, live entertainment and other activities that bring together history, culture and a spirit of adventure.
