A lot seems to be happening at the branch for the month of November. However, first there are a couple of thank you’s that need to be addressed. Thank you to Bill Gowland for power washing the concrete pad at the Cenotaph prior to the funeral ceremonies; it was a job long overdue and took much longer than planned. It still looks great! Also, thank you to Dan Welsh for watering the lawn all summer at the Cenotaph. The Cenotaph is visited by many people and you keep it looking cared for.
Remembrance Day Ceremonies
For the first time in 2 years, we will have a parade to the Cenotaph for our Remembrance Day. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the branch will be open and the Ladies Auxiliary will provide a light lunch. More details will follow as we get closer to November 11.
Membership Renewal
A reminder from Membership Chair Rick Lane: the Early Bird Renewal for memberships has started. From now until November 30 the price of renewal is $45; after that the price is $50. You can pay by:
1. Visit the branch;
2. e-transfer to: donate@tobermorylegion.org;
3. mail a cheque to P.O. Box 310, Tobermory, ON N0H 2R0 Attn: Rick Lane; or
4. Royal Canadian Legion Dominion site via credit card (sorry no discount for this option – $50). You have the option to prepay for 5 continuous years when you renew, contact Rick for more details.
While it is great that we have members and that the membership largely takes advantage of the early bird renewal, the main manner in which the branch makes money to pay for maintenance, heat, electricity etc. is by individuals attending events. Of the dues only about $7 or $8 dollars remains with the branch. So, if you really want to help the branch please attend any one or more of the following events that are taking place in November.
Pool Nights – November 4 & 18 from 7 to 10 pm. Come on out and challenge Sean Hurst to a game of pool or play shuffleboard while you wait for the pool table to open up. Cost $2.
Club “oLd” – We have seen the rest; now we want to see the best! Come on out for this event to see what all the fuss is about during the summer. Dust off your boogie-woogie dancing shoes and enjoy a night of music from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. There will be NO cover charge and there will be food. Starts at 6 pm and goes until 10 pm. Find out what attracts the youngsters.
Also, there is Darts for Fun weekly, Trivia, and Euchre, see below for individual details.
