The Peninsula Shores Secondary (PSDS) Drama class is proud to present “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza,” a comedy by Don Zolodis, directed by teacher Emily Cameron. The play, a farcical twist on many traditional Greek myths, is sure to have you in stitches. It being performed at the old train station in Bluewater Park on June 2, 2022 at 6:30pm. The event is family friendly and the cast and crew hope that you and your entire neighborhood will be able to come out to see the show, though they kindly ask you to leave pets at home. The cost is by donation and proceeds will go towards the PSDS Drama program.

Cameron said, “With all of the changing Covid restrictions, I was really hesitant to have the play at the actual school, fearing it might get cancelled again. Drama kids always pour their hearts into a performance, creating characters, building sets, and spending countless hours rehearsing lines. It would have been heartbreaking if we had to go through another cancellation.”

She went on to say, “When I first read this script, I felt it presented us with a unique opportunity to go back to the old days of theatre, back before all the bells and whistles of lighting and sound effects. Then, I considered the beautiful backdrop of Bluewater park, and the rest kind of fell into place. I am super excited for these kids to present something to the entire community.”

The class is comprised of 16 students, mostly grade nine and ten, and a few seniors.

Grade 11 student, Edward Legault, said, “The best part about the play is the fact that I get to play a bunch of different characters. My favourite is Deadalus because I get to create a funny voice for him.”

Ten students are acting in the show and play a variety of characters, many of whom the audience are sure to recognize from ancient mythology. The other six students have been working behind the scenes to build props and set pieces, paint, design costumes, and make the programme.

Falyn Jones, a grade 13 student, noted, “The atmosphere in the class is inviting and everyone is respectful of one another. It is more hands on than other classes.”

Patrons are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. In the event of rain, the performance will be re-scheduled to June 10, 2022 at 6:30pm. The cast and crew are grateful to the town of South Bruce Peninsula for letting them use the space.

The Secondary Leadership class is also planning several events this Spring. The Pow Wow will be held June 15, 2022 at 10:30 am at PSDS. The class is also planning an outdoor movie night showing The Goonies on June 9, 2022 at 7:30 pm at the school. The cost is $10 a person or $25 per car. Participants are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. Popcorn will be provided.

The grade eight classes are also holding a virtual silent auction to help raise money for their year-end trip to Celtic. Several donated items are for auction via the PSDS Facebook page.

For more information about any of these events, check out PSDS’s Facebook page or call the main office.
