Rotary Club of Northern Bruce Peninsula: Pewter Lighthouse Ornament Sold Out!

Well, it took less than a week and all two hundred of our Pewter Lighthouse Ornaments are GONE! We expected them to go quickly as did last year’s ornaments, but we did not realize the demand. Next year we will need to think about ordering more.

I had the pleasure of dropping off two that our Assistant District Governor Pat Cavan purchased last week. She was thrilled as you can see by the picture we took. Pat is well known in our area as an active Rotarian in Wiarton, a multi-year assistant Governor of District 6330, President-Elect of her club and, before her retirement, as Principal of Bruce Peninsula District School.

We thank Pat and everyone for their support to this project. Money raised helps support the many programs and projects we support in this community.

Rotary Assistant District Governor Pat Cavan receives the two Rotary Pewter Lighthouse Christmas ornaments she ordered. Rotary sold out in less than a week and thanks all who supported this project and, thereby, supported all that Rotary does in our community.

FORMER GOVERNOR TALKS ABOUT POLIO PLUS

You have heard us, many times, talk about Rotary International’s drive to eliminate polio. We have been involved in the program called ‘Polio Plus’ for over 30 years and we are certainly seeing impressive results.

Many of us work at different events that have money directed to Polio Plus, but few get to participate like our former Governor Tony Sheard. Tony and his wife Sylvia have both been Presidents of the Southampton Rotary Club but, in 2018 they got to travel to India and be involved in an event at which many children received immunizations provided through Rotary in our quest to end this terrible disease. Our former Governor and his wife considered it an honour to participate and have been involved in countless Rotary programs and projects.

A friend discovered an article about Tony and Sylvia in the Grey-Bruce Boomer Magazine published by Amy and Dwight Irwin. It tells a lot about this special Rotarian couple and what they have done thanks to their involvement as Rotarians. They are perfect examples of our Rotary motto, ‘Service above Self’. Pick up a copy and read about them, or visit www.greybruceboomers.com, and you too may be inspired to become a ‘Person of Action’ and join this wonderful organization.

ROTARY MEETINGS

We continue to meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Rotary Hall with Covid-19 Protocols in place as well as meeting on Zoom for those reluctant or unable to meet in person this year or who are travelling. We welcome people who are interested in learning about Rotary. Please contact us at nbprotary@gmail.com or contact any Rotarian if you are interested in attending and seeing the types of issues we are dealing with at this time.

We hope to soon be able to return to our ‘dinner’ meeting format once a month but that is still a way off right now. It is essential that we keep everyone safe.

HALL RENTALS

We remind people that the Rotary Hall may be booked for events through the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. Rotary keeps the building clean and maintains it as much as we can. We also pay for grass cutting on the site. We are fortunate to have a liquor license to operate a bar for anyone needing one in the area. We are licensed, insured, and have the appropriate license requirements for the Rotary Hall. THE MUNICIPALITY BOOKS EVENTS AND KEEPS US INFORMED. It is another great partnership that works for this community.

Rotary itself rents out tents (canopies really), tables and dishes as needed for events in the community. Keep us in mind. Fee information is available upon request.
