Chartered in 1974, the Ferndale Lions Club has been running events and working closely with the community for the past 46 years. Organized and run by local volunteers, the Lions Club is an important part of what makes Lion’s Head the incredible place that it is.
Due to Covid-19, the Lions Club has unfortunately been forced to cancel a number of events including the homecoming horseshoe tournament, pumpkin toss, lawn mower races, and pumpkin carving contest. As a result of these cancellations, we have been unable to fundraise nearly as much as in past years. For years, the funding we’ve received has gone directly into running local events and supporting the community in a number of ways.
Lions Give Back To Community
You have given us the opportunity to clean up parts of our community through hazardous waste days, collection and sorting at the landfill, and highway cleaning from Lindsay Tract to Lindsay Road. To help provide food for the community by donating directly to the Salvation Army. To help save lives by making a sizeable donation towards a rescue UTV (side by side) for our Fire Department to use during search and rescue missions.
You’ve given us the opportunity to help hundreds of children find new passions and have new experiences through our proud support of Camp Dorset, Lake Joseph Camps for the visually impaired, and our Lions youth exchange program. These opportunities are an incredible resource for our children and we hope to be able to continue running these programs for years to come.
You have allowed us to donate towards some life changing causes including the Owen Sound Hospital MRI fund, The Red Cross, The Children’s Health Foundation, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, and The LCIF Lions Club International which donates directly to disaster relief around the World. The LCIF is not a government agency, it exists and can help others directly because of the support we receive each year from our community.
$2 Donation Drive Supports Community
With the incredible support our community has shown over the years, we at the Lion’s Club are asking for assistance one more time. We have partnered with local businesses Hellyer’s Foodland in Lion’s Head, Peacock’s Foodland in Tobermory, and Rona Building Center in Miller Lake to run a $2 donation drive. Donation boxes will be available in many local businesses and 100% of donations will go directly back into the community.
So, if you find yourself in a Mom’s Pizza or a local shop and see one of our boxes, remember that a little bit goes a long way.
As a final word, we here at the Lions Club would like to offer a sincere thank you for everything the community has allowed us to do. We’ve had the privilege and the honor of thinking locally and being able to help spread the kindness of Lion’s Head globally. We serve, and will continue to do so for as long as Lion’s Head will let us. We look forward to the next time the community can come together to toss some horseshoes or race a lawn mower. Until then The Lions Club wishes you all good health, and safe tidings in this difficult time.
