SERVICE – WE ASSIST, NURTURE, SUPPORT

Submitted by Bonnie Warder

President Cathy McLay took the opportunity at our November regular meeting to thank the members for their support over her term. We also want to thank her for the hard work and dedication over the past 2 years. She did a great job! Our new President for the upcoming year will be Lindsay deMalmanche and we look forward to working with her as our leader.

Lindsay got a jump start on her new role as she presented a $400.00 cheque to St Edmunds Public School earlier this month. The students are heading down the road for a skating adventure at the arena, so our donation will help with the cost of the bus. We hope they have lots of fun!

Judith Friend represented the SWANS at the Chilli Cook-Off, held at the Rotary Hall and placed 3rd out of 9 contestants. This was a fundraiser for the Bruce Peninsula District School trip to the Netherlands next year. Way to go Judith!

Some of our “witchy’’ members attended the annual “Laugh and Learn” conference in Walkerton on November 8-10. SWANS is a Provincial Organization and each year this event is hosted by one of the groups across the Province. It is always a great time and the bonus this year was that it was so close to home.

Each year, the Provincial President picks their favorite charity and the groups make donations. This year the donations went to the Shine Foundation and the total raised was $7,955.00. This organization changes the lives of children and youth living with severe physical disabilities across Canada. The target group is ages 11-21 and they help build confidence, independence and optimism to boost their mental health and future goals. The vision of the Shine Foundation is that the Shine youth lives their dream. Congratulations to President Deb McFarlan for choosing such a worthwhile cause. Our local group made a donation of $500.00.

This is a friendly reminder that the SWANS Christmas Bazaar will be held on December 7th at the Friendship Club, next to the arena in Lion’s Head. We will be offering a good selection of homemade goodies for purchase. There will also be beautiful greenery creations and a “penny table” (obviously an updated term) with really good treasures. The doors open at 10 am and close at 2 pm, so stop by and do some shopping and grab a nice lunch before the Santa Claus Parade. We can only accept cash payments and all proceeds go back into our community.

Hope to see you there!
