Fall is upon us. Yes it is here. Usually one of the last things I do is clean my tools, but due to the rain we received I did leave some things out, not good. They got wet. With wet tools comes rust and rust is not good. Not having any WD-40 on hand I got out the Olive Oil. Just all my clippers for now, but at least they got cleaned up. I will give them their usual cleaning when the garden goes to bed.
The plants, mostly Hostas (no surprise there), that I had hydrating in the trug are all planted up, and the ones that required support got a tomato ring around them to help them out.
I will be just walking away from the garden again this Fall instead of cutting it back (finally getting rid of my Nancy Neat phase). So much easier, and as the years go by, I’m looking more and more for easy. Once it shuts down I will then throw some good mulch over it and it’s “see you in the Spring”. Hoping the Winter goes by as fast as the Summer did.
My annuals are starting to shut down. So out comes the wheel barrow and my large trug. Soil into the barrow and plants into the trug. I have a composter just for these plants. I will mix in some compost from one of my other composters to get it started and leave it. I have had some interesting things grow out of this container. The soil will go back into some pots that I will fill with winter greenery and the rest in my soil bin mixed with a shovel or two of compost to get it rejuvenated for the next growing season. All that will be left is to trim some evergreens to put in some pots for a pretty Winter look and it’s Winter ready.
Hoping we have a loooong fall so I can still play outside “In The Garden”.
Happy Fall. Happy Gardening,
Joni
