The Tobermory Muses were proud to participate in ‘Read a Poem to a Child’, the 2019 challenge set out by the global organization “100 Thousand Poets for Change”. Usually the annual challenge is a one-day global event, but this year the time frame was spread out over a week so that writers could visit schools to share this art form with as many children as possible.

On September 29 the Muses visited the Bruce Peninsula District School. Several classes were gathered, then divided into small groups which rotated between poets. Ferelith Hoffman-Taylor, Gill Jones, Colleen Cardinal, Ron and Rita Baker, and Lorraine Campbell offered poems with a variety of themes to the children, who then in turn had an opportunity to speak with each writer to ask questions or comment on the works.
