The Lion’s Head Friendship Club continues to be the place for seniors to meet, socialize, and take part in a variety of enjoyable activities.
The Senior Olympics will take place on June 18 and will be followed by a barbecue. It promises to be a fun-filled day, and everyone is encouraged to come out and participate.
The club’s next dinner will be held on May 30 at 5 p.m. This special evening will celebrate the club’s anniversary and recognize the long history of the organization within the community.
History of the Club
The Friendship Club first began on May 1, 1970, when members gathered at the Parish Hall. The club’s first president was Julia Newton. In 1977, the village provided the use of the agricultural building, and through grant funding the club eventually established the beautiful Senior Citizens building on Tackabury Street, now widely known as the Friendship Club.
Today, the club is operated by a dedicated board of directors under the leadership of president Maxine Catteau. From its humble beginnings in 1970, the club has grown into one of the most active and respected senior organizations in the area.
The club would also like to extend sincere thanks to the Municipality and the Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) for their ongoing support of the Friendship Club and its programs.
Regular activities continue throughout the week, including Bid Euchre and Bridge on Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m., as well as Progressive Euchre on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome to come out and join the fun.
