Hikers know the importance of having a nutritious snack while on the Trail. Imagine if you didn’t know when you would have your next meal. Local food banks provide that additional support for families and individuals who need a little extra to make ends meet and support community health. There are four food banks on the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.
Peninsula Bruce Trail Club (PBTC) hike leaders wanted to help. During the month of January, PBTC hike leaders organized a food drive called, Trail2Table. Peninsula Pet Supplies partnered with PBTC to offer an additional drop off point for those who could not join the organized hikes.
Hikers who participated in PBTC organized hikes brought non-perishable food donations to the hike. Food donations were collected by the hike leaders for the entire month. If hikers couldn’t make the hike, they could still drop-off donations at Peninsula Pet Supplies store in Ferndale.
Our combined donations raised 129.2 pounds of food for the Lion’s Head & District Food Bank. Thank you to all those who contributed toward the Trail2Table food drive campaign!
Trail2Table Food Drive for Tobermory Food Bank
The Peninsula Bruce Trail Club is partnering with Peacock’s Foodland to support the Tobermory Food Bank and help local residents in need.
Food insecurity is rising and can affect anyone. In 2025, the Tobermory Food Bank saw increased demand, even during the typically quieter summer months—a trend seen across the country.
Throughout April, hike leaders will invite participants on group hikes to bring a non-perishable food donation. These contributions will go directly to the Tobermory Food Bank, which serves individuals and families in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
Tobermory Food Bank is located at 20 Centennial Drive, Tobermory and is open on Tuesdays, from 1-3 p.m.
Not a hiker? You can still help. Add an extra item to your grocery cart and place it in the donation bin at the entrance of Peacock’s Foodland. Every grocery item is appreciated! Small acts can have a big impact – together we can make a difference.
