The Community Yard Sale held at St. Edmund’s Anglican Church on Saturday July 18th was once again a huge success. No one is certain how many years this sale has been held, but it consistently unites parishioners and neighbours to raise funds for good causes.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who donated items, who, the week before the sale, helped sort donations, volunteered on the day, or came out despite the rain to purchase treasures—some of which may even return next year!
In just three hours, the sale this year raised over $3,800 all of which will be used to support community activities through the Summer in the Spirit (SiS) programme and the Tobermory Outreach Committee (TOC)
The SiS programme, organized by the local Anglican and United Church congregations, features seven Wednesday evening events from July 22nd to September 22nd. The programme aims to build community, and to honour the sacredness and beauty of this peninsula. Events range from Sacred Fire, held on July 22 with members of the Saugeen-Ojibway First Nations, to Music on the Bruce on August 26 at 7 p.m. at Tobermory United Church, featuring string music by Beethoven, Horvat, and Ravel.
TOC is organised by all four Tobermory churches, it supports local people who may otherwise fall through the cracks by offering emergency help with food or utilities, transportation to medical appointments, a listening ear, and referrals to other programs.
Special thanks to Lawrence Beagan, who for the second year, donated beautiful charcuterie boards, this year inscribed with a flowerpot and signed “Tobermory”, and to Cecile Eadie for donating nine pairs of hand-knit socks and headbands. We also thank the Bruce Anchor Company for allowing us, for another year, to use its parking lot. It truly takes a village and what a village we have!
