Meet Chickpea, a baby orphaned brush-tailed possum, in one of the hand-crafted pouches made right here on the Bruce Peninsula.

It only took a week for local  crafters to answer a plea from Australia. Carol Longworth from Lion’s Head received a call from her daughter in Toronto at the end of February. There was a desperate need for soft pouches to care for baby animals that had been orhphaned in the recent bush fires. Carol’s daughter knew just the knitting community that could help.

The request was put out to local crafters, and with help from Ida’s Crafty Nook,  the group was able to produce a box of pouches that were en route to Australia. A woman who was flying to the exact spot in Austrailia where the pouches needed to go graciously took the batch of crafts with her for delivery.

Less than a week later the woman sent this photo of Chickpea, a baby orphaned brush-tailed possum, in one of the pouches made right here on the Bruce Peninsula.

Kudos to the local crafting group, Carol Longworth, and Ida’s Crafty Nook for answering the call to assist animals in need.
