LION’S HEAD, ONTARIO — A local youth is celebrating provincial success after an outstanding year of musical achievement.
Robert Thompson, a Grade 3 student at Bruce Peninsula District School, earned third place in the Popular Voice – Beginner Level (Ages 6-8) category at the 2026 Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Finals, held from June 8 to 13.
Robert qualified for the provincial competition following a strong performance at the Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music in Owen Sound. At the provincial finals, he impressed judges with his performances of “Rockin’ Robin” by Leon René (also known as Jimmie Thomas) and “What a Wonderful World” by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele.
Earlier in the festival season, Robert competed in the Popular Voice category at the Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music, earning two Gold standings with impressive marks of 87 and 89.
Robert’s accomplishments reflect his dedication, hard work, and enthusiasm for music. Advancing to the provincial level and placing among the top young vocalists in Ontario is a remarkable achievement for a performer of his age.
Family, friends, teachers, and supporters are celebrating Robert’s success and the positive example he sets for other young musicians in the community.
“Robert worked so hard to prepare for Kiwanis and for Provincials! We are so proud of his commitment to the arts and can’t wait to see what he does next.” said Bruce Peninsula District School Music teacher Mrs. Collins.
“Congratulations Robert from all your family and friends” said Robert’s mother Amanda Thompson. “A very special thank you to Mrs. Jordan Collins”.
In addition to singing, Robert loves drawing, dinosaurs and soccer.
Congratulations to Robert on an exceptional festival season and a well-deserved third-place finish at the provincial finals.
