The time is drawing near for our Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary (LHHA) annual yard sale. Those of you in attendance last year know we lost power shortly after opening. We are hopeful that all the mischievous goblins stay away this year, but the “Firefly Sale” did make for a good story.
If you haven’t already started to clear out items to donate now is the time. The sale is always the weekend following July 1st and as July 1st falls midweek this year the sale falls a little earlier than usual, too.
Drop off of donated goods is at the Lion’s Head Arena, Friday, July 3rd from 8:00 until noon. Donations will be accepted at the back of the arena. (Please review the list of items that we cannot accept below.) The sale itself kicks off Saturday, July 4th at 8:00 sharp until 1:00 p.m. The doors open Sunday, July 5th at 10:00 a.m. closing promptly at noon.
Unlike many yard sales there are no prices marked on the items. At the checkout is where you make an offer and negotiate with our cashiers. For furniture items we have designated people with whom you can negotiate the price. This year we have two boutique areas; jewelry and collectible goods and new this year an art boutique. Do remember that every dollar raised, and that means EVERY dollar, supports the equipment and capital needs of our very own Lion’s Head Hospital.
We are fortunate enough to have musical entertainment at the Yard Sale and the Lions Club will be providing a food booth on Saturday, as well. It’s always nice to be able to take a load off your feet and enjoy something to eat and a cup of coffee or a soft drink. We always look forward to chowing down on their sausages and other delights.
And now for the list. Kindly remember that this list is in place for health and safety reasons. Our primary goal is to protect our shoppers, buyers and volunteers from items that could present a risk to health and safety. If you had considered donating any of these items please consider donating them elsewhere. The following items are not accepted: mattresses of any kind including mattresses on lounge chairs; knives of any description including hunting, fishing, camping and kitchen knives; weapons of any kind; televisions, computers, keyboards, monitors; exercise equipment such as treadmills, stationary bikes or rowing machines; cribs and children’s car seats; propane and gas tanks; anything that could be considered hazardous waste (solvents, paints, batteries); clothing, boots and shoes (save them for our autumn clothing drive); and finally major appliances. Kindly test items before donating to ensure that they do work.
We are so lucky to have such a generous community. Thank you for your ongoing support. Whether you are a permanent, seasonal, transient or passing through part of the community, we all benefit by maintaining good health care locally. We’re in this together.
When it Rains it Pours – Perennial Sale Gets Rained Out
The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary Perennial sale this year took place under less-than-ideal circumstances. While the sale is always held rain or shine this year the heavens opened. The plants were well watered throughout but so, too, were the soggy shoppers and volunteers. Gardeners, however, are a hardy bunch and many brave souls came out to peruse and purchase new additions for their gardens. This year there was also on offer rhubarb stalks and mulch. Both sold well.
We would very much like to thank the following for their contributions and support: Everyone who donated perennials for the sale, Hastings Tree Services for the mulch, Blooming Lion Garden Centre for potting soil and Hellyer’s Foodland. Donated items and support help us increase the funds raised while lowering expenses.
50/50 Draw: And the Winner Is…
The Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary held a 50/50 draw, winner to be drawn on June 6 at the Rock The Bruce (97.9) Birthday Party, a fundraising event for The Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation. All tickets sold, the draw took place and the lucky winner of $990 was Lori Richer from Guelph.
Congratulations, Lori and thank you so much to everyone who purchased tickets. The proceeds from the draw will go towards funding an updated air conditioning system at Brightshores Lion’s Head Hospital.
