Next Membership Meeting September 5 at 6:30pm

Submitted by Sharron Colter,
Secretary and Public Relations Officer

On Tuesday August 13th the Lion’s Head Legion, with the help of many volunteers, served 200 whitefish dinners. There are many people to thank in order to make this dinner a successful sellout. Thank you to Wayne and Barb Morningstar for coordinating the dinner plans, making it the success that it was. Thank you to the 50 volunteers needed to be at the Legion to prepare, serve and clean-up afterwards. Thank you to all of the dessert bakers as there were many delicious choices available.

The summer dinners are well attended and supported by the community. The summer dinners are fundraisers for the Legion to ensure money to pay the bills to keep the Legion viable and available to support our veterans and their families and the community members.

The Lion’s Head Legion executive and members meet once a month on the first Thursday of the month. Plan to attend the next membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday September 5, 2024. After September, the meeting will be held on October 3rd at 2:00 p.m. The executive members would appreciate a higher attendance of the membership at the monthly meetings to share ideas and learn about the positions that need your help as a volunteer. Many volunteers make light work for everyone.

To be a part of the community, the Legion is available for rental for meetings and group activities. There are many groups meeting at the Legion monthly. The executive members have welcomed the Bruce Men’s Shed on Monday mornings at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and chatting and the third Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m. for a meeting. The first Tuesday of the month welcomes the Old Schoolhouse Seniors for a lunch and on the last Thursday of the month for dinner and entertainment. Darts will begin on Monday September 30 at 1:00 p.m. Bring your own darts. Community members are welcome to join any of these groups as guests and possibly become members.

For many years the Legion has been the meeting place on the second and the fourth Wednesday for the Lion’s Head and Ferndale Lions Club. These meetings are catered by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary (except July and August). The S.W.A.N.S. meet at the legion on the first Wednesday of the month with their dinner catered by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary (except May, July and August).

Recently four Legions saw their Ladies Auxiliary close due to lack of volunteers and members to carry on their catering expertise and they will be missed in their community. Service to one’s community has always been a self-rewarding experience in the past. If you would like to join the Ladies Auxiliary (LA), call Jean Shearer, LA President at 519-793-3014. If you would like to be a member of the Legion, call Chris Mawdsley, membership chair, at 226-668-4540 or e-mail at branch202membership@gmail.com.

The Lion’s Head Legion Branch and Ladies Auxiliary executives need the community members to join and become volunteers to support the many projects that enhance your community and provide community outreach to our veterans and their families.
