The Sources of Knowledge (SOK) board has had to reschedule the much-anticipated forum “Fire: Respect, Knowledge, Balance” originally planned for the weekend of May 2nd – 4th. The new date will be confirmed soon, we are predicting a late-October forum.

The forum is being rescheduled due to federal regulations that restrict government employees from speaking publicly during the election writ period which extends beyond May 4th. Since contributions from Parks Canada and the Great Lakes Forestry Centre represent an important part of the forum’s intended discussions, holding the event without their participation would limit our ability to fully present all planned research and perspectives.

Sources of Knowledge originated as part of a partnership with Parks Canada to share important research and insights about the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula and its unique ecosystems. To remain true to our foundational purpose and ensure the forum fully represents the vital research and knowledge from our government partners, we believe rescheduling is necessary.

In the interim, we are excited to announce a special SOK Talk to fill the original weekend slot:

Bear Encounters by Willy Waterton

Join us on May 2nd at 7:00 PM at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre in Tobermory for a special presentation by celebrated photographer and photojournalist Willy Waterton. In “Bear Encounters,” Willy will share stories and photographs from his extensive experiences in Canada’s Arctic and the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula. His talk will offer insights into the behaviour and habitats of black and polar bears, showing how environmental changes impact these incredible creatures. We invite everyone to come and experience this captivating journey into the world of bears and their conservation challenges. This event had to be rescheduled in December, and we feel fortunate to host Willy Waterton this spring.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work toward the rescheduled forum date. Thank you for your continued support.
