HELLO APRIL! What is up with keeping this cold and snow! Robins, Turkey Vultures and Sandhill Cranes are back. Just waiting to hear from the Spring Peepers.
The Tobermory Legion Branch 290 Annual General Meeting will be on Tuesday, May 12th at 7:00pm. It would be great to see more people out supporting the branch!
The Ladies Auxiliary WINTER BINGO is continuing on Mondays at the Tobermory Community Centre. Doors opened at 12:30pm with games starting at 1:00pm. Meat draws are happening on Saturdays starting at 4:30pm. On the second Friday of the month, come and test your smarts with Trivia night – bring some friends or join a team. Trivia starts at 7:00pm. And on the last Friday of the month, come with friends or join a group and play euchre. Doors open at 6:45pm and games start at 7:00pm. Try your luck at darts, every Thursday starting at 3:00pm.
For this year only, in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion (anniversary date July 17th), new members can get a free legion membership. Consider joining your local legion – this is your ‘free’ chance. We would love to add more people to this great organization AND to have a few new members at our local branch. The 100th anniversary celebrates a century of standing with Veterans, strengthening communities and honouring the memory of those who served.
Branches everywhere lowered their flags to half-mast on April 9 in honour of Vimy Ridge Day. On April 9, 1917, soldiers of the Canadian Corps stormed Vimy Ridge in France, capturing ground that had been under German occupation. More than 3,500 Canadians gave their lives and nearly 7,000 were wounded in what is widely regarded as a defining and instrumental battle in the First World War.
