The Pike Bay and surrounding communities are excited to participate in By The Bay’s 12th Annual Fishing Derby. The non-profit derby starts at 12:01am on August 28 and concludes on August 31 at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased during store hours at By The Bay in Pike Bay (817 Pike Bay Road) – $25.00 for a single ticket and $50.00 for a family ticket. The fishing boundaries are the waters of Lake Huron in the area bounded by the Chief’s Point on the south, Cove Island Lighthouse on the north, and west to the international border. Anglers can also fish Georgian Bay from Cove Island Lighthouse to the south point of Wiarton Harbour and all inland waters on the Bruce Peninsula.
The weigh-in station is located at By The Bay behind the store on August 28, 29, and 30 from 12-2pm and 7-9pm and August 31 from 10am-2pm. Winners will be awarded a cash prize in a Junior and Senior category for salmon, trout, small mouth bass, largemouth bass, pike, and perch. An award ceremony is scheduled for August 31 at 4pm behind By The Bay store (bring a chair, no alcohol).
Event organizer, Brad Hazzard, said that he is looking forward to “seeing all the families enjoying fishing in the Bruce again.”
By The Bay owners, Sarah and Brian Carson, said, “Fishing is a big part of the Pike Bay and surrounding communities. It creates friendly competition amongst the derby goers, and all the children get a candy prize whether they catch a fish or not. It’s a great way to end the summer vacation for kids. The Pike Bay and surrounding communities and businesses heavily support the derby with prizes and participation. It is an annual event that everyone looks forwards to for families to get out on the water and spend time together.”
