The annual Walk for Dog Guides was held once again at Lion’s Head Beach Park on Sunday, May 25. Despite the cool weather, the rain cleared just in time for the event. The Ferndale, Lion’s Head, and District Lions Club was delighted to welcome six eager canines and their capable human companions for this meaningful cause. Together, participants raised over $2,000 through generous community donations.

This Walk is part of a nationwide initiative, with similar events taking place in communities across Canada. Funds raised support the Lions Foundation of Canada’s mission to empower Canadians with disabilities by providing Dog Guides at no cost. These life-changing companions offer independence, confidence, and unwavering support to their handlers.

Lions and event Chair Sue Ellen Boyle extends a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Walk. Donations are still welcome and can be made by visiting www.dogguides.com and selecting the Lion’s Head walk location.

The Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lions, now into their 51st year, have had a productive winter, engaging in a variety of community service initiatives. As spring unfolds, the Lions continue their tradition of Service with several key events on the horizon. These include the annual roadside clean-up, assisting the Lion’s Head Hospital Auxiliary with their Annual Garage Sale with a food booth on July 5, and once again hosting the much-anticipated Annual Beach Horseshoe Tournament on Sunday August 3.

The Lions meet for dinner at the Swan Lake Legion Hall on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month with the exception of July and August. If you’d like to learn more about our club or explore becoming part of our dedicated service organization, feel free to reach out to any member—we’d be delighted to welcome you!
