The Red Schoolhouse Gallery, located in Ferndale at the corner of Highway 6 and Ferndale Rd/Bruce County Road 9, opened on 18 May for its 2025 season. The Gallery will showcase 23 artists, comprising 11 permanent artists and 12 guest artists throughout the year. Original Art in watercolors, oils, acrylics, felt, wood, ceramics, stained glass, photographs and mixed media encaustic will be on display.
The Opening Reception has definitely become an important event on the local social calendar as there was a steady stream of patrons throughout the two-hour event, easily becoming the Gallery’s busiest opening day to date. The Opening Reception offered the community the opportunity to meet the artists, view great locally produced artworks, listen to music provided by local musicians and socialize with each other while enjoying delicious homemade hors d’oeuvre and desserts.
A patron was pleased to see artwork priced for every budget, while other patrons complimented the high quality of the artworks and amazing talents on display. Another patron stated that the social atmosphere fostered lots of conversation as neighbours and friends greeted each other and chatted with the artists about their art.
The Bruce Peninsula Society of Artists (BPSA) operates the gallery, which also houses a gift store offering photography books, art cards and other gifts. The gallery and gift store is manned by BPSA members during opening hours.
The name of the Gallery honours the historical connection to the original building, which opened in 1891 as the Ferndale School, S.S. #8, a one-room schoolhouse with 28 pupils enrolled.
The Gallery is located at 2866 Hwy 6 in Ferndale, ON. Opening Hours: May and June – open Saturday and Sunday 11.a.m.- 5.p.m. July and August – open Thursday to Monday 11.a.m.- 5.p.m. September to Thanksgiving – open Saturday and Sunday 11.a.m.- 5.p.m.
