The third and final Bonspiel of the season was held on March 1, 2025.  This Bonspiel was sponsored by  Barbara Dircks Re/Max Realty and was won by Wayne Eichenberger’s team of Wayne, Dale Eichenberger, Lynette Williams and Jim Williams

During the lunch intermission many of the curlers participated in a fund raiser by choosing lucky rocks to shoot at the “turkey” in the middle of the ice surface. After a lot of noise of clanging rocks and cheers and groans the poor turkey had been pushed all the way to the other end of the arena.  Scott Coleman’s extremely lucky rock was located closest to the turkey so he was declared winner of the Turkey Shoot!

The Bonspiel Lunch was prepared by the Swan’s Club and the Rotary manned the bar. Eight teams enjoyed two eight end draws, lunch, skill game and good fun and each player went home with a very useful food prize.

Monday, March 24 was the end of the 4th draw and final game of the season. The winning team was skipped by Wayne Eichenberger, however, for the final game Gabe Clark filled in for him and got a win that brought the team to first place.  Team members are Wayne/Gabe, Brenda Nelson, Arran de Malmanche and Jim Williams.

This year’s Most Sportspersonlike award went to Kim Pitblado and the Most Improved Curler award was a three way tie between Lynette Williams, Chris Lewan and Bill Floyd. The names for these awards are submitted by the other curlers as noticed throughout the curling season.

After we curled, we feasted on scrumptious butter tarts made by Susan Avis,  and then proceeded to our Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers.

Our President, George Hambleton, gave a report on activities and accomplishments of the club over the past year. Especially notable was the completion of replacing our old rocks with reconditioned ones and now we have 5 sheets of ice all sporting updated stones.  This was a major expense to our club over two years but well worth it for the improvement and satisfaction in our curling.

We are pleased to announce our new President is Brenda Nelson.  She is a very capable person and our club will be in good hands for the 2025-26 season. Other new officers are Susan Avis, 1st Vice-President, Janice Sim, 2nd Vice-President and Jim Willams, Bonspiel Co-ordinator.  Ian Couper will be Vice-Drawmaster assisting Betty Hastings.

That’s it for this winter’s curling but come October, 2025 we will be having our annual Learn to Curl Night so plan to come out for this free curling event.  Curling is great exercise and fun and challenging too. I wonder if we will have butter tarts that night too!
