Tobermory Health Services Auxiliary (THSA) has been uniting for Health since 1982 to help our community have better experiences, provide wellness advocacy by using impactful fundraising – for a healthier community. To this end, we have completed the first in a series of health and wellbeing lectures.

The “Report on Memory and Healthy Aging” was presented by Dr. Nicole Anderson. Dr. Nicole Anderson, is senior scientist at the Rotman Research Institute, Baycrest. Dr. Anderson is a professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and the Director of the Ben and Hilda Katz Interprofessional Research Centre in Geriatric and Dementia Care at Baycrest. She is also the Associate Scientific Director of the Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness at Baycrest.

Dr. Anderson provided this lecture free of charge and we thank her on behalf of the THSA and our community! More than 50 people joined the zoom lecture and many were surprised and very uplifted by the impactful information.

We learned: “What’s Normal, What’s Not, and What You Can Do About It”! She focused on improving our understanding of cognitive changes experienced by people who are aging healthfully and those at risk of developing dementia as well as developing interventions to reduce dementia risk.

We have posted the entire lecture on our website at THSA.ca in case you missed it!

Our next lecture will be about the health benefits of yoga and will take place Wednesday March 5th at 6:45 pm at the Tobermory Community Centre. Please join us to learn about Yoga for Health and Wellbeing. (see ad page 4)

Yoga can offer a wonderful range of breath and movement that enhances and benefits our wellbeing. The intention of this session is to introduce you to components of the practice that can be integrated into your daily life.

This informative session will be led by Karin Kristoferson! She is a part-time yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner and avid litter picker upper. She is grateful to live on the Northern Saugeen Bruce Peninsula.

All of these lectures will be free of charge to our community with the goal of continuing our mission to increase the health and wellbeing for everyone!
