Monday Morning Coffee Continues 9-11am

‘Somewhere to go, Something to do, Someone to talk to’

Media Release, Bruce Men’s Shed

Each time I write an article I look back at what our group has done that might be of interest to anyone reading this. We have held hikes, woodworking, meetings and more that is easy to write about.

Other times, such as this, a couple of members suggested that we talk about our Monday Morning Coffee, or Coffee Time Chat. Looking back over the weeks and months that we’ve been holding these, the turnout has been excellent. The ‘Health by Stealth’ motto of Men’s Sheds Ontario can be observed. New friends are met and made, ideas and experiences are shared, plans are made for helping each other on projects. The laughter and talk is constant and many parking lot conversations have helped each other in many ways.

Another observation is that talk turns to health issues past and present. A common complaint is that their doctor or physician is reluctant or unwilling to book a specialist appointment. One member who has been through a number of in-hospital treatments has made it clear that you (the patient) have to be persistent and be your own health advocate in order to get the health care you need. Possibly as a result of this advice, another member who, after months of effort, finally had not one but three specialist appointments booked for his issues.

Last article we talked about turtle nests and yesterday at a member’s home near Sky Lake, he had a clutch of freshly hatched Painted Turtles crossing his driveway. Please keep an eye out for these little guys as well as snakes on the roads and trails!

The Bruce Men’s Shed motto is ‘Somewhere to go, Something to do, Someone to talk to’. The networking term usually applies to business environments and it equally fits our group. If you are interested in learning to weld, use a lathe, grow hydroponics, do community projects, hike, bird watch, and much more please do come out. Cottagers and day visitors welcome.

Every Monday morning we meet for coffee from 9-11am, and our monthly meetings are the third Saturday morning of the month. Both are held at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202 on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:30am. All are welcome.
