Happy New Year! As the new year gets its customary slow start up here in the quiet village in the winter, things are rolling right along at branch 290.
The big news of the day is that we are in need of a new roof. We saw this coming during the summer months and we are currently sourcing out roofing companies to replace the roof in the coming spring.
With that being said, we will be hosting events, and running fundraisers to help us cover the cost. Currently there is a donation box at the branch that will be on display during branch operating hours and during events where all are invited to drop a few dollars (or more) into it. We are also accepting online donations via e-transfer at donation@tobermorylegion.org , just add in the notes that it is for the roof so that the funds get allocated to that cost.
December was a busy month at the branch and January is shaping up to be just as fun filled!
We have our normal Thursday Darts at 7pm, and the Saturday Meat Draw starting at 4pm, along with Euchre (no potluck) on Friday, January 19th at 7pm. Bingo is hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary at the Tobermory Community Centre every Monday at 1pm and all are invited to come out, visit with the neighbours and have some fun!
For all of the NFL fans in town – have you seen the new 85 inch TV at the branch yet? Aren’t playoffs the best time to check it out? Starting Sunday, January 14th at 1pm we will be at the branch with the TV on and the bar open. Come out and watch the playoffs – we will be open each Sunday in January leading up to the Superbowl on February 11th, so keep that day open too and stay tuned for additional details for the day.
We are also hosting one last Ceasar Sunday and Breakfast at the branch for the winter on January 21st starting at 9am. Breakfast will be served until noon, but guests are invited to stick around for the game starting at 1pm.
Painting afternoon Sunday, February 4th from 1 to 4pm. Watercolour class with Sara Gowland. You will leave with a framed sunflower painting. Cost $60, limited spaces, maximum 15 participants. Pay at the branch to secure your spot.
If you have an idea for a fun event to run at the legion, please reach out to Judy Hurst, Ways & Means Chair, at runjude@gmail.com and don’t forget that the branch is always available to rent for your own private events as well!
