Submitted by St Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum Committee
We have turned the corner on a very busy summer at St. Edmunds Bruce Peninsula Museum. We have had very successful events this past summer including two separate demonstration days by our local Tip of the Bruce Carvers and also Spinners, Weavers and Tatters, led by Doreen Hills, a Quilt Show on the rail fence with hand-crafted quilts in partnership with Tobermory Quilters, a celebration of the 125th year of the Schoolhouse/Museum building with alumni speakers and dignitaries.
We have conducted a survey of the community seeking feedback on what’s important and what opportunities we can pursue in future years. To this end, the museum committee will undertake a formal review and develop a strategic plan that will guide us in future years.
And, we’re not done…. the museum is now open on weekends only, 11 AM – 4 PM for visitors. Come and enjoy a guided tour of our displays or a visit at your own pace.
In addition, on Saturday, September 16, the Tip of the Bruce Carvers will return for the final major event of the season. Parking is free and admission is by donation.
We appreciate the visitors and their donations and the strong support of the municipality and our museum attendant Karen Phillips. We wish to express our thanks to community groups who have partnered with the museum for this season’s programs, the volunteer museum committee for their continued hard work year in and year out and the many volunteers that help at the Museum, rain or shine.
This year, a special thanks to our gardening volunteers who have brought wonderful colours to our grounds and to our intrepid tree cutters for improving our highway visibility.
Everyone makes a valued contribution from administration, grant applications, quarterbacking projects from log cabin relocation, archives inquiries, cataloging and collection maintenance to gardening. We have a special group of volunteers. We want to thank each volunteer for your continued support of our piece of history in our community.
