On Saturday, September 9th, at 9:00 am, the Bruce Men’s Shed will be hosting a general meeting at the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch # 202, where a guest presentation by Dr. James Hamilton will contain information on local fisheries, including spawning and stream rehabilitation efforts, along with insight on karst topography and water flow on the Peninsula.
During the month of August, HelpAge Canada identified the Bruce Men’s Shed as a ‘Young Shed’ in terms of only being established on April 1st, 2023. HelpAge Canada is a sponsor of the Men’s Shed movement across the country and has recognized the positive growth our organization has witnessed so far. Members participated in interviews that may be used globally and across the country with testimonials regarding how being involved with the Men’s Shed movement has helped build male companions while being active with various projects and activities.
During the month of September, the Bruce Men’s Shed is actively trying to ‘Pay it Forward’. In return for allowing access to meeting locations, members will be working on small kitchen update by repairing and painting the cabinets in stages for the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch # 202. We are also cleaning up a storage shed and installing shelves at the Pike Bay Community Centre.
Additionally, on September 9th, members will be attending the Tobermory Men’s Breakfast for fellowship and a presentation regarding the levels of radon gas on the Peninsula.
The Bruce Men’s Shed will host general meetings on the third Saturday of each month. The next general meeting will occur on Saturday, September 16th, with a presentation on a local fishery habitat and a follow-up site visit on another date afterward. General meetings are held at the Lion’s Head Legion, Branch #202 (Hwy 6 north of Ferndale), starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday meetings will be for general meetings only as various projects, events, and activities will/may be held on other dates outside the regularly scheduled monthly meeting dates.
