The 3rd Annual 91.9 The Bruce Birthday Bash welcomed a crowd of about 200 people through the doors of the Tobermory Community Centre on Friday June 6th. Tobermory’s own DJ Maxx put on a great light show and got the people up and dancing just as soon as the doors were opened. He kept us rocking when the band took their breaks and even made the clean-up fun.
Grey Road 1, a 5 piece band of hard rocking musicians and winners of the 2024 Battle of the Bands, brought their brand of classic rock, funk and blues music to the stage at 8pm. The band is named for the childhood home of the guitar playing front man and lead vocalist, Fred Dawson. Mike Weir and Nick Liefl make up the rhythm section while Trevor MacKenzie and Pete Devlin add some hair raising, spine chilling, guitar licks to the BIG sound of this great band.

The funds raised at the Birthday Bash will benefit food security programs at the Tobermory Meeting Place. A small crowd of volunteers from The Meeting Place were on hand to help the Radio station crew with set up, decoration, ticket sales, bar service and cleanup. They kept the popcorn (donated by Reader’s Haven) coming to the tables all night. Pharos Restaurant was on hand with hot sausages, warm buns and delicious chili for sale. Peacock’s Foodland donated the soft drinks.
There were lots of great prizes donated by generous sponsors including Bruce Anchor, Hungry Hiker, Norm’s Fast Lube and Lakeshore Recreation.
For more great music, chances to win great prizes, and lots of local news tune in to 91.9 The Bruce (97.9 in South Bruce). And keep your dancing shoes handy for this annual party when it returns next year.
