To celebrate the opening of Bear Cub’s Diner on May 5 2023, over 100 community members, family, friends and patrons stopped by to witness the ribbon cutting, enjoy free coffee, muffins and conversation and see the new decor.
New owners Jeff and Roberta Mielhausen, well known proprietors of the Bear Tracks Inn & Restaurant in Ferndale, a popular meeting place for locals and visitors, were pleased with the good turnout over the morning and for the opportunity to welcome their patrons to their second restaurant in Northern Bruce.

Roberta says when the opportunity came up to reopen a restaurant in the building that housed the former Katemma’s Diner, they felt that they could fill a need for the Pike Bay Community. Roberta also says they had sufficient staff that they could staff a second location. The menu will be similar to the Bear Tracks’ menu but with a few additions. Pizza will also be served.
The Bear Cub’s Diner will be open seven days a week, year-round from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Mielhausens are very focused on giving back to the community as much as possible and support many fundraising and charitable projects. The Meals on Wheels are prepared at their Bear Tracks Restaurant. During the early stages of COVID-19 they offered rooms to frontline health workers and first responders at the Ferndale location. They host charitable dinners for the Hospital Foundation and the local Daycare, as well as a coffee day on Remembrance Day and are involved in many community projects such as the Pumpkin Toss.
The Mielhausens hope the Pike Bay community will welcome them as much as they look forward to serving the community.
The Bear Cub’s Diner is located at 607 Pike Bay Rd, Municipality Of Northern Bruce Peninsula, ON N0H 1W0, Canada. Tel: 519 793 4720.
