Fundraiser Ornament Sold Out

Submitted by Peninsula Bruce Trail Club (PBTC)

Did you know that a flock of owls is called a parliament of owls? Or, that the Anishinaabemowin name for Snowy Owl is, “waab-gookooko’oonh”?

This year’s PBTC Christmas ornament is the beautiful Snowy Owl.

Previous supporters of this fundraiser and early bird inquiries have sold out this year’s ornaments in less than 12 hours – it’s becoming a local bird enthusiast’s collector item. Thank you PBTC friends, neighbours and members!

Through the generous guidance of Susan Miller, a fused glass artist from Owen Sound, PBTC volunteers have been diligently creating this year’s ornament. Special thank you to Susan and to the PBTC volunteers – Laura Browne, Hanne Fynbo, Barney Hopkins, Jane Greenhouse, Darci Lombard, Owen Glendon, Fran Turner, Tamara Wilson! Volunteers spent many happy hours (a few frustrating …but always fun ones) of cutting, grinding, assembling and painting the feathers for this special parliament of owls!

The ornaments are ready to hang, include a lovely insert card with description of the Snowy Owl and the purpose for the fundraiser. Thanks to PBTC volunteer, Les McBeth for designing the gift card and to Janna Chegahno for providing an Anishinaabemowin reference to the Snowy Owl.

They are boxed in a 4”X4” jewelry box – perfect for gift-giving. Ornaments cost $25 (tax included) and will be available in mid- November. They sold out very quickly – all 102!

All proceeds will be directed to PBTC for protection of bird habitat, bird species at risk and education about birds on the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.

We hope you enjoy these pretty Christmas ornaments and are inspired to spend a few hours watching birds in your neck of the woods. Or, consider joining one or more of the local Christmas Bird Counts on the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.

If you are interested in supporting our conservation work in a different way – visit us at the PBTC tent at the Lion’s Head Farmers Christmas Market on November 26 and 27 and BPSA Market in Lion’s Head on December 3. Local artists created several lovely paintings and donated all proceeds toward PBTC to restore bird habitat, protect bird species at risk and facilitate education about birds on the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.
