The Bruce Peninsula District School (BPDS) Drama Club is in middle of rehearsing for their next big production! Into the Woods (JR) will be presented April 20-22 in the BPDS Cafetorium. Mark your calendars!
With a book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods (JR.) is based on the Broadway production which won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical. The musical follows a Baker and his Wife who learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door. The couple embarks on a quest – swindling, deceiving and stealing from such already-victimized characters as Cinderella, Little Red Ridding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (fresh off the beanstalk!) – to get the special objects required to break the spell. However, the story doesn’t simply end “happily ever after” as each character must now face the consequences of his/her decision.
Students from grades 4 – 12 have been working hard memorizing lines, learning songs, picking up some choreography, developing costume, prop and set designs, learning about stage management and preparing for lighting and sound cues. The Drama Club encourages students to take part in all aspects of the performance and all of the duties involved in mounting a production, both on stage and backstage. It’s a great opportunity for students to explore a wide range of career paths that may not otherwise be available to them.
Tickets for this production will be available soon! You will be able to order through SchoolCashOnline, even if you do not have a student attending a Bluewater school.
The Drama Club is also hoping to run another fundraiser selling First Aid Kits, as they did before Christmas, in order to raise the funds required to put on a production.
