Rotary Scholarships Presented to 2022 Secondary Grads

The Secondary Graduation of students from Bruce Peninsula District School was held on Wednesday, June 29th, and Rotary was proud to present scholarships and awards to five students in the graduating class:

Natalie Rouse received the ‘Highest Academic Proficiency’ Scholarship (for $1,000, presented by Rotarian Rob Hiscott) which is awarded to the graduating student with the highest Grade 12 average. Natalie will pursue a diploma in Environmental Management at the Ridgetown campus of University of Guelph, and then a degree in Bio-Resource Management from University of Guelph, main campus. 

Annalise Helmond received the Rotary ‘Service Above Self’ Scholarship (for $1,000, presented by Rotarian Cathryn Buckley) which is awarded to a graduating student whose voluntarism and extracurricular activities best exemplify the Rotary motto of ‘Service Above Self’. Annalise will pursue a B.A. degree in English, Writing and Art at Redeemer College in Ancaster, Ontario. 

Maizy Hutchinson received the Keith Hopkinson Memorial Scholarship (for $1,000, presented by Rotarian Bob Spearing) which is awarded to a graduating student planning to pursue a post-secondary program in a medical- or health-related field of study. Maizy will pursue a 4-year B.Sc. degree in Nursing through the Fanshawe College/Western University program in London, Ontario. 

Sasha Hohus received the J.C. Buckley Memorial Scholarship (for $1,000, presented by Rotarian Bob Spearing) which is awarded to a graduating student planning to pursue a post-secondary program in power engineering or other trades-related apprenticeship. Sasha will pursue a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) trade apprenticeship through Humber College. 

Elijah McNair received the Mary Cameron Award for ‘Most Improved Student’ (for $500, presented by Rotarian Tom Buckley) which is awarded to the graduating student demonstrating the most improvement over the last year in high school, as selected by BPDS. 

Rotary congratulates all the graduates of the Bruce Peninsula District High School Class of 2022 and wishes them well for all future endeavours! 

Rotary Pancake Breakfast 

Rotary thanks everyone in the community for coming out this past Sunday (July 3rd) for our Canada Day holiday weekend Pancake Breakfast – this was a very successful breakfast with 242 people attending over the course of the morning. 

We also thank our continuing corporate sponsors – Miners’ Maple Products (providing maple syrup for the pancakes) and Lion’s Head Beach Motel (providing the coffee) for their important donations towards our Rotary Pancake Breakfasts! 

Our next Rotary Pancake Breakfast will be coming up during the August civic holiday weekend – more details to follow!
