TheJuly 1st Green Tomato Cage/Garbage Can Blitz was a success! The most used garbage cans were right at the corners of Hwy. 6 into the town. They had to be emptied a few times during the day. Wouldn’t it be nice to see garbage cans on those corners with benches or bicycle racks?
Thanks to Jeff and Bunkey Cunliffe, there is a new returnable can/bottle bin next to the Chamber Information Booth in the Harbour for visiting boaters to use!

Bears were visiting the garbage cans at night, but the Municipality scheduled a night pickup of garbage which eliminated a potentially bigger problem. Lance used his magic to deter bears and raccoons from being attracted to certain areas and that helped too!
Thanks to all the residents who participated in the Tomato Cage Blitz campaign on Big Tub Road and Harpur Ave. There were more bags on Big Tub Road and record numbers of people walking to the lighthouse! YET, as of the Monday morning after the long weekend, there was less litter on the Big Tub Road roadside compared to Harpur Ave.!
KEEP THE BRUCE CLEAN & GREEN gave a presentation to South Bruce Peninsula Council in June. We are excited to say, they fully support our initiative and are willing to display our signs throughout their municipality!
Indeed “it takes a village to raise a child” we appreciate everyone’s support!
