Rotary Donates to Lion’s Head Food Bank
Submitted by Jim Dilamarter
Rotary has recently approved the donation of $500.00 to help supply Thanksgiving turkeys to needy families in our area through the Food Bank. Darlene Myles and her crew do a masterful job of helping others and we are proud to be of assistance.
Rotary was one of the founders of the Lion’s Head Food Bank. We continue to support this essential resource to our community regularly.
Rotary Tulips Arriving Soon
We are expecting the arrival of our Rotary Tulip order in about four weeks. Those who have ordered them will be contacted by Rotary when they arrive to arrange pick up. We have ‘sold out’ but, hopefully, next year there will be a similar project if you missed your chance this time. This is a project from Rotary International where all the profits go to Rotary’s Polio Plus Campaign.
Lighthouse Christmas Decoration Sale
The pewter Lion’s Head Lighthouse ornaments will be arriving soon. Keep your eye out on our Facebook page for an announcement of when they arrive and how you can get your ornament. We are excited to be selling ornaments again this year.
Happenings at the Rotary Hall
Under the leadership of Rotarian John White, the Rotary Hall is looking great even after many days of use as a polling station and several other activities. The Rotary Club Meeting room in the basement is undergoing a major clean up and clean out. We are trying to make space in that area for the equipment we use for our fundraisers and activities. When we are able, our meetings will be held there once again as well.
Rotary owns a lot of equipment it has purchased over the years which is used in the hall or rented out to others needing special equipment at different times. We have dishes, pots and pans, and cutlery in the kitchen that we purchased. We also own the stoves, the dishwasher, refrigerators and freezers in the Hall, the chairs and all the tables. We have tent/awnings we rent that are stored there and all our stoves and grills for Pancake Breakfasts and events. If it is in the Rotary Hall and ‘moves’ Rotary probably bought it over our many years serving the community.
We are trying to keep all that neat, clean, and organized. We are careful with what we have because many others use those very things when they come to events at the Hall.
You may rent tables, tents/awnings from us. The chairs at the Hall were expensive when we bought them and do not leave the Hall, but the township has chairs to rent at the arena.
We are grateful that the Municipality looks after any repairs to our refrigerators, stoves, or dishwasher because of the use made by the community of that equipment. We are proud of the relationship we have with the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. Over the years there have been many partnerships between Rotary and the Municipality. The picnic shelter in Lion’s Head Park, the Parkette in Tobermory, the children’s play equipment at the beach in Lion’s Head, Ferndale, and the Lion’s Head Day Care were all provided because of partnerships between Rotary and this Municipality.
Over the years, besides our lengthy history supporting the Rotary Hall and the local Food Banks, we have donated thousands of dollars to Lion’s Head Hospital and the Doctor’s Centres. We support our schools in the area and, particularly, are proud of our scholarship program at Bruce Peninsula District School.
Rotary may be just what you are looking for as a Service Organization. We welcome new members. Contact any Rotarian for information or write us at our email address: nbprotary@gmail.com
