For the weekend of June 4, staff of the Lion’s Head Transit Authority was located at BPDS to direct parking at the school’s parking lots.

Surprisingly, for the first weekend of the “Stay at Home” order being lifted the crowds going to the Lion’s Head Lookout were noticeably smaller than those of the previous two weekends which still had the “Stay at Home” order in effect.

The shuttle service had to await the Province’s Step 1 reopening plan to be able to operate. So a week later on 12 June, the shuttle service was a “go”. The shuttle is currently operating on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Parking fee is a $35 flat rate per vehicle, with parking at BPDS and includes free transfers all day long on the shuttle service. For anyone else requiring a ride, the fare is $2. The current bus stops are at the Marina, Beach and McCurdy Parking lot.

The name for the bus service was inspired by the former name of the popular 70’s and 80’s pop-rock band “The Chicago Transit Authority”, now commonly known only as “Chicago”, hence the name Lion’s Head Transit Authority. The bus is adorned with artwork by local artist Margarethe Vanderpas. The bus aims to be a portable classroom, to help visitors learn about the history, geography and ecology of the area as well as offer relevant information about trail conditions, location of washrooms and water refilling stations and other tourist services.

There is also a plan to offer a second hop-on, hop-off route for residents to go to the pharmacy, grocery, bank, etc.
