The Tobermory Food Bank has received a donation of $2000 from the Bruce Power Workers’ Union. This is not the first time the Food Bank has received a donation from the Union. In the past years we have received similar donations, but this year in particular it is so very helpful. As said many times we are so fortunate to receive support from so many including large corporations. This donation is very meaningful as it comes directly from the working members of Bruce Power. Living on the Bruce, this could mean it comes from our neighbours, friends or even relatives.

The Food Bank has been able to maintain our operating hours at the Meeting Place on Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m. these past 14 months. This is possible not only because of the generous donations we received, but because of the dedication of our volunteers who are there each week to serve the clients in a way that ensures the safety of both the client and volunteer. These volunteers gather the food items for clients, sanitize before and after each transaction, and, keep a log for contact tracing. They also tidy and stock the shelves and keep track of what items need replenishing.

In addition to the regular hours, the volunteers have packed Holiday Hampers for Easter 2020, Thanksgiving 2020, Christmas 2020 and again Easter 2021. The packing of Hampers also sees additional volunteers coming out to help pack and deliver.

Although, this may not be the time everyone would feel comfortable in volunteering for the Food Bank, if you wish to find out more about what that may look like, please call Linda Godhue at 519-596-2333.

Thank you again to all our donors, the support has been amazing. If you wish to donate it can be done in several ways. You can e-transfer to tobermoryfoodbank@gmail.com Be sure to send a separate e-mail with your address so that a tax receipt can be issued. You can also donate by sending a cheque to Jennifer Dewey, 211 Eagle Rd., Tobermory, On N0H 2R0. As well, you can ask that a donation be made to the Tobermory Food Bank account at Peacock’s Foodland. Tax Receipts are issued for donations $20 or more.

If you have any questions about the Tobermory Food Bank please call Linda at 519-596-2333 or Jim at 519-375-7010.

As always, keep safe and keep looking out for each other.
