Thank you, one and all, for your tremendous support for our St. Patrick’s Day Green No Dinner Dinner we organized to raise funds for our Scholarship Program with Bruce Peninsula District School. We received over $2,075.00 so far with some money still arriving. It was, simply, overwhelming. As we get nearer to this year’s graduation, we feel confident that we will be able, once again, to provide scholarships as we have for countless years.
Our thanks go out to all who participated by donating to this project. It is so difficult to raise funds during these Covid-19 times. Our Pancake Breakfasts used to provide the bulk of our funds for the project with supplementary funds coming from our bars. Of course, we have not been able to do any bars or run any real Pancake Breakfasts since March 2020, and the summer still looks doubtful. This one event has helped tremendously.
We also thank the Red Bay Lodge for their donation of a gift certificate and all the members who donated door prizes for the event.
The winners are:
• The jar of Georgian Bay Honey – Helen Schenk
• The Red Bay Lodge Gift Certificate – Pam Robertson
• The Black and Decker Coffee and Spice Grinder – Ellen Greig
• The Isagenix Isablender 9-Piece Blender – Vi Adams
• The Chefman Instabrew Coffee Maker – Craig Adams
• The Velata Indoor Electric Grill – Daryl Cowell
Rotary President Cathryn Buckley must have encouraged a lot of people from Tobermory to support the cause as five out of the six winners come from there.
The winners have all been contacted and told where to pick up their door prizes.
We thank all who participated and sent us pictures. We had a fun time and we raised funds for an important project in our community.
SPECIAL DONORS REALLY COME THROUGH FOR ROTARY
Special thanks must go to two groups. Firstly, to HARBOURSIDE INSIDE, that wonderful group of local musicians who performed for us over the winter of 2019-2020 until Covid shut things down. These men and women entertained us all on Friday nights at the Rotary Hall while Rotary ran a bar. It was always a super fun Friday night. This wonderful group donated $400.00 towards our Green No Dinner Dinner realizing just how important the Scholarship Program we have is to our community. Your donation is deeply appreciated.
Besides them, Stephen Woeller and Trace McKay sent a donation of $400.00 to Rotary for our Green No Dinner Dinner from their company Terrapin Social Finance. What great community people!
Stephen and Trace and the Harbourside Inside Group know how important what we do is to the community. Because of their work in the Rotary Hall, they have seen how Rotary helps the community. We are extremely grateful!
That is what ‘community’ means: people helping each other. We are so proud to be part of Northern Bruce Peninsula and live in a community with caring people who look out for each other.
ROTARY PRESIDENT RECOVERING FROM MAJOR SURGERY
Our President, Cathryn Buckley from Tobermory, is making steady progress after having a double kidney transplant in London. She sends her thanks to all her friends and neighbours for their love and support. Cathryn says, ‘It’s just one day at a time and thinking about what I can do each day to move my recovery forward.’ She is grateful to her doctors, the nurses, and her entire health care team who have been so good to her. She is also grateful to all the folks back in the Northern Bruce Peninsula for their thoughts and prayers.
The club has missed her, but Cathryn has kept busy even during recovery. She was instrumental in promoting our Green No Dinner Dinner and attends our Zoom meetings providing her usual wise leadership. She hopes to be home in Tobermory just after Easter.
The club and the community miss her presence and wish her a speedy and full recovery.
