Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lioness club is saddened to report we will be unable to hold our famous Spring Fashion Show this year. We are all incredibly disappointed, this being our 50th anniversary of the event, but as we all know, our world is terribly different than it was a year ago. Rest assured, however, that the little bug from Asia that is causing all this trouble will not win the last round. We will, as long as we follow the safety rules!

While we have had to jettison all our plans for a cracker Fashion Show event in May, we do hope that Bruce Peninsula women will join us next year when we can promise a fantastic show.

Because of Covid-19 Lioness women, like other organizations, have been unable to gather together, but the work has continued. Thanks are due to our Executive team, especially, our President Cathy McLay, our Secretary Jackie Souter, and particularly Bev Miller our Treasurer, a lot of work has gone on.

As President Cathy McLay points out “In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic the Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lioness will continue to support the community to the best of our ability. We have increased our designated donations to the Tobermory and Lion’s Head Food Banks, and also donated to the Feed the Senior Project” she said.

Knowing that money is tight with local foodbanks the Lioness have donated $1,000 shared between the Lion’s Head and the Tobermory Food Banks. $1,000 has also been donated to the local Fire Department to assist them to buy an ATV for use in search and rescue. Finally, Lionesses have been helping seniors in the area with a pay-forward meal, delivered from a local restaurant.

Darlene Myles, Coordinator of the Lion’s Head Food Bank, says she is grateful for the generous donation from the Lioness and others. If you wish to donate, Darlene asks that monetary donations are best at this time to avoid the spread of Covid-19. To do this, e-transfers can be sent to the lhdfoodbank@gmail.com. Darlene has also set up a Facebook Page for the Lion’s Head and District Food Bank.

“Rest assured that the Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lioness will continue to support our community in the upcoming weeks and months to help everyone navigate these uncertain times,” said President Cathy. “We are all fortunate to be in this special community and will get through this, but for now let us all follow the guidelines of our public health officials and stay safe by staying at home.”

At the last meeting of the Ferndale, Lion’s Head & District Lioness club, in early March, a new member, Tamara Wilson, was inducted into the club. Welcome Tamara!
