Walkerton, Ontario – Bruce County’s Spruce the Bruce program is now accepting applications. More than $120,000 is available in matching grants to support community development in 2020.

“Spruce the Bruce supports projects that enhance Bruce County, creating vibrant, attractive places for residents, visitors, and businesses,” says Bruce County Warden Mitch Twolan. “Since its inception in 2009, the Spruce the Bruce program has leveraged more than $5 million in private investment in our communities.”

Grant applications are welcome from businesses or groups in Bruce County communities that have a common vision for the future and an action plan to get them there.

“Community development is about bringing stakeholders together to create communities where residents want to live, visitors want to visit, and businesses can thrive,” says Kara Van Myall, Bruce County’s Director of Planning & Economic Development. “Spruce the Bruce provides the tools and grants to realize that vision.”

Eligible projects for business owners include sidewalk patios, façade improvements, perpendicular signs, awnings, and collaborative marketing. Community groups and municipalities are also eligible for streetscape beautification, destination infrastructure, and community signage grants.
