Lent is a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday (February 26th) and ends approximately six weeks later, Easter Sunday. For many Christians around the world it’s a most important time in which many fast, do extra alms and extra acts of good will.
On the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday which is called Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Suppers are held by many Churches. Over the years Christ Church Anglican, Lion’s Head held many Pancake Suppers, but due to circumstances beyond the Church’s control they were unable to host a Pancake Supper in 2019. People in the village were disappointed that a Supper was not held. Therefore, the Church Council decided to partner with a organization within the community of Lion’s Head. That organization was the Rotary Club. For years the Rotarians whenever needed have helped Christ Church Pancake Suppers by being servers and or part of the clean up crew.
Council Member, Anne James, who is a Rotarian, spoke to the Rotary Club about partnering with Christ Church to host a Pancake Supper. The Rotary Club were in favour of the partnership. Rotarian David Hosken and Rotarian/Christ Church Member Anne James will coordinate the Supper.
The Rotary Club will prepare the pancakes, sausages & apple crisp etc. and Christ Church members will help the Rotarians set-up, serve and clean-up.
The Pancake Supper is to take place at the Rotary Hall, Tuesday February 25, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The menu will be Pancakes, Real Maple Syrup, Sausages, Apple Crisp with Ice Cream, Tea, Coffee, and Juice. The COST is a FREE WILL DONATION (suggested donation $10).
To help the environment, participants are asked to bring their own dishes and cutlery. Note: Dishes and cutlery will be supplied for those who don’t bring their own.
