It’s time for Community Kitchens! Are you surprised? The Meeting Place has run this popular program for many years but it’s usually in February and March. We’ve decided to try something new – a Community Kitchens (CK) event every month throughout the winter season. This splits the 4 events up and allows participants to get out monthly and enjoy lively conversation, learning a new skill and cooking together, followed up by a bite to eat. This month the theme is a Christmas baking exchange. The Tobermory Community Centre is the place to be on Thursday December 13 at 12:00 noon. You need to bring the ingredients and equipment to create a double batch of your favourite recipe. After baking together, everyone will go home with a nice assortment of goodies for their holiday guests to enjoy. Please register by contacting The Meeting Place 519-596-2313. If you see this before the 13th there is still time to register. By the way, Sharon McComb is the new CK coordinator on behalf of The Meeting Place and Sharon knows her way around a kitchen too. Here is a heads up for the whole CK schedule. Start time noon sharp.

• Dec 13 – “Group Baking Exchange”

• Jan 10 – “Meals for a Buck or Two”

• Feb 7 – “Heart Healthy Cooking… That’s Not Boring!”

• Mar 7 – “Meatless Meals: Ideas & How To’s”

As part of our involvement in the regional food security initiative, The Meeting Place is running a programme beginning in January called the “$$ & Sense Club”. This will encourage social networking, budgeting, menu planning, recipe swapping and cooking as a group over a six-week period. Watch for posters around town and also on The Meeting Place Facebook page.

The new peer-organizing gym and fitness program started up at TMP with a dozen people coming out for an orientation session on December 2nd and signing on to the roster. All ages and genders, so that’s a good sign for a community looking to improve health and fitness. A second orientation is planned for December 5th, and if you missed that one please call The Meeting Place and let Jennifer know to add your name to the list for another sign up session. The in-person orientation is part of the program but we want people to join. This is the brain-child of Chantal Lefebvre and TMP thanks Chantal for bringing this idea together.
